A Statement in Leopard
This morning I felt like drawing some attention upon myself. Those who know me know that this is a usual occurrence. At any rate, the sun was out and I needed to be out and about in its glory. Keeping in line with my mood and overall desire to cause some sort of scene, I donned my leopard fur trench coat. From the moment those rich, delicious caramel, black and brown spots hit my shoulders, I stood a little taller and got a little "spunkier"--maybe a bit animalistic?

I bounced my way up to Oak Street with my iTunes blaring in my ears, ignoring the obvious looks on people's faces when they were confronted with my completely over-the-top coat. It's quite amazing how people react to something so....so....strange first thing in the morning. My Starbucks barrista actually commented that he "loved" my coat because it showed my personality. That it does, dear coffee-god, that it does.
Isn't it amazing how clothes can make you feel a certain way? The feel of a silk slip on skin under a dress, a pair of killer stilettos, that statement necklace or the classic little black dress...all have the unique power to transform a woman's mood and lift her spirits.
Nothing can bring me down in my leopard coat. I can't wear it often but when I do, it completes me. Maybe that's why I own several versions of it. This one, though, is by far the most edgy.
I am admittedly hyper-interested in what other people are wearing. When I went to Paris, that's all I did on my afternoons--I would sit in an outdoor cafe and watch the latest hits or misses strolling on the streets.
It's actually interesting how people try to draw attention to themselves. For me, I think most people do that through clothing. Others still turn to tattoos, piercings, hair styles and hair colors. Whatever it is, people like to be noticed. Even if it's for being "ordinary" or "safe," it's an important part of human nature, to be recognized for something.
I wonder what sort of wonderful statements I will see on my way home. One thing is for certain, that lovely leopard coat will turn a few heads!
