MIRROR MIRROR SALON - "OH SHIT!"

Mirror Mirror Salon, located at 807 W. Randolph Street, Chicago, IL 60607, is nothing more than a shakedown, sham operation run by incompetent, un-skilled imbeciles--to put it mildly.

So how do I really feel? Trust me when I tell  you: i'm Never, ever going near this salon again. The quick version: I sobbed in the stylist's chair because of the end result. I remind you, I'm a barracuda attorney who rarely cries--so clearly, it was bad. I left after three hours with the same hair I had when I came in. My husband--who was present for half of the escapade--confirms this fact. The girl doing my hair said "oh shit" when I pointed out to her that the color didn't even catch onto my hair. Then she said, "well, at least your hair isn't ruined." What's worse, THEY CHARGED ME FULL PRICE for doing nothing. These people shouldn't even be allowed to sheer a sheep let alone cut and color people's hair!

My first signal that something may be off with the salon came when I booked my appointment. I asked the lady on the phone who my stylist would be and all she informed me was that one of the stylists who were available would be honoring the coupon and not to worry as their stylists have each more than 6 years of experience. In my mind I thought, ok, 6 years is enough time to learn at least how to do a decent job.WRONG!

I arrived at the salon around 5:15pm. My appointment was at 5:30pm. There was only one other client there, a man, getting his hair trimmed. The "bad feeling" I had from booking my appointment increased when I sat in one of the stylist's chairs. I forget her name but she was a petite black woman who began to inspect my hair as if it was from another planet. I do not have damaged hair. I've had it professionally colored and highlighted for years.  I use salon, color-safe products. All my hair needed was an inch root touch-up and some base color. It's not rocket science. The stylist had no idea what to do. Having been through this process extensively, I showed her which color I wanted as a base and where the touch-up highlights should go--I thought she understood. I also informed her that my hair needed extra time to develop as the red doesn't take very quickly to color or bleach.

After disappearing to the back room for literally 20 minutes, the stylist returned with three different coloring concoctions that she mixed in front of me for an additional ten minutes. Then she proceeded to fight with over-sized gloves for another couple of minutes, attempting to manipulate them so that they could somehow fit her small hands. She finally proceeded to section off my hair into thirds in order to color and highlight the strands at about 6:00pm. One section took about 40 MINUTES EACH! With each slow-motion, exaggerated attempt to isolate the hair that needed highlighting, I got smacked in the face with a dirty glove because the gloves were flopping around her tiny hands. After she finished each section, it was about 7:40. For the last section, she decided to speed up her snail's pace. Ok, I thought, here's the problem--the color on one side of my head has been sitting there for over an hour and forty minutes--it's probably WHITE by now. When I pressed her about this question she said, "you're right" and quickly ushered me to the washing station to wash out the one side of my foils. This was the first time that I've ever had this sort of nonsense.

After washing out that part of my foils, she wraps my head into a plastic bag and sticks me under a dryer for an additional ten minutes. Then she takes me again to the washing station, washes out the second section. Then she takes me to the drier again and finally back to the washer because according to her, it's all done. Now it's 8:20pm. I've had enough and tell her, I'll just quickly dry my own hair because I need to go.

She tried to help me dry my hair but clearly she wasn't even competent enough to do that. When it finally dried, I was horrified. My hair looked EXACTLY THE SAME as when I came in--including the one inch root (un-colored) outgrowth that I had come in with! I tried to stay calm, examining each section but I just broke down in tears. My poor husband didn't even know what to say. I told the stylist that there's still the root-outgrowth that wasn't covered. All she said was "OH SHIT." The manager of the store, who had been chatting up my better half and watching this entire process evolve, came over and inspected my hair. She AGREED that it wasn't done right, that there were patches, and that she could stay to fix it...No way, between sobs I told her that I had especially found time in my horrifically busy schedule to get this done and that there's no way I was staying longer or coming back there.

I thought the ONLY proper thing for her to do, other than to personally fix it, was to not charge me, after all, they didn't do anything to my hair. NOPE. The two incompetent idiots proceeded to charge me--FULL PRICE. And, what's worse, she didn't honor the coupon discount I had but instead charged me full price for partial highlights. I wasn't about to have her call the police on me for failing to pay her and so I just handed over my card--as a lamb to slaughter--and watched my $81 dollars go down the drain along with all  the color that was to have been on my hair.

What a nightmare. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. MIRROR MIRROR SALON is awful. They are incompetent, lazy, un-skilled and plainly don't know how to run a business. When a client is sobbing in your chair because of the terrible work you have done and you yourself admit that you've done a faulty job, and then your MANAGER confirms it--why would you proceed to charge this person?! This salon is nothing more than a sham shakedown operation.
