You're supposed to eat the curry, not smoke it...

Sir Issac Newton once said that he could "calculate the motion of heavenly bodies, but not the madness of people." The good Sir was a wise old sage, indeed. Some people are certifiably insane. In fact, as I always say, I much prefer animals to some humans. Sad, but true.

Take for example this so-called "bond" that is supposed to exist between siblings. Now, I'm an only child and though some may think that I suffer from "only child syndrome," or an overly excitable "crazy gene," those facts might only be partially true. In my life, I've had the blessing of a pseudo-brother in my eldest cousin. He's been there for me through the roller-coaster of my life: my accomplishments, my many mistakes,  the terrible choices in men, the shoe/purse/clothing addictions--all coming with a healthy dose of rivalry to keep me in check and to constantly motivate me to be a better person. I can honestly say that ever since my fire-engine red hair graced this world, that bond with my cousin has been there.

But that's not true for everyone. Not everyone shares this "bond" with their family. Some people's "crazy genes" have taken over control of the logical parts of their brains. In fact, it's a pretty sad state of affairs that there are plenty of people who don't even speak to their siblings, let alone feel any deep connection to them. Bond or no bond, I think some of these peeps might be--as Sir Isaac Newton stated--mad! Take for example someone close to me who recently decided that radio silence with a sibling was probably not such a hot idea anymore. Well, no good deed goes unpunished. Not only did the sibling rebuke the reconciliatory attempt, but further seized on a greedy shakedown operation. Here's the actual text of the email reply to the olive branch: "you borrowed $1800 from me in fall of 2006, agreeing to repay it one month later.  In 2007, you repaid $200 of that in cash.  However, you still owe me $1600.  I would like that repaid with interest as the first step forward in repairing our relationship.  $1600 compounded annually at 5% over four-and-a-half years comes to $1992.84.  You can send a check or you can Paypal me the money.  PayPal is preferable....." I think I reread this twice before I had to stop or else I'd wet myself. Notwithstanding the nonsense of the entire sentiment of some illusory money owed, I just can't get over the interest rate verbiage. So much for any sibling connection there. Madness, insanity, whatever you want to call it--some people have completely fallen off of their rockers. Rest assured, that olive branch is broken.

Still further, the insanity outbreak is clearly infecting a lot of people, e.g. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver. These two former love birds were hot and heavy for a long time but apparently after 25 years, the fire's burnt out. How do you stay in a relationship with several kids and almost 25 years of marriage and only then decide one day that there's no bond between you two? Um, hello--it took you this long to figure it out? Part of me thinks that the doctrine of waiver should apply to a spouse seeking a divorce after 25 years of marriage, heck, I'd say after even 15 years. I'm sure there's probably some merit to the rumors that Arnold couldn't "terminate" the waywardness of his male member and that that's why Maria pulled the trigger but seriously, she never said "boo" about it and in classic Kennedy style, turned a blind eye. Moreover, Maria went on to tell TMZ that Arnold was "crazy" for a "long, long time." Right, crazy. See, I told you. Except that she stayed with crazy for 25 years. She's just as insane as he is for putting up with his nonsense.

Finally...don't even get me started on Paul McCartney. That man didn't get enough crazy from Heather Mills and so now he's making it legal with Nancy Shevell. What's the old adage -- takes one to know one?
